A child who was dumped on the altar of Cherubim and Seraphim Holy Trinity Church on Oda Road in Akure, Ondo State, has been named after the State’s first lady.
The incident took place last week Wednesday in the morning.
The baby girl named as Betty Emmanuella Akeredolu, has now begun a new life in an orphanage run by the Ondo State government.
The agency’s acting secretary general, Mrs Foluke Tunde-Daramola, assured that the child would receive adequate care at the orphanage.
“It is sad to see some people lose a baby without thinking about the pain of pregnancy and the day of the knee.
“There are many factors that can contribute to the loss of a child in society.
“Childcare is not something that can be taken lightly, so one who is not yet ready should stay away from sex or protect oneself.”
She said although some medications were found in the bag next to the baby, the baby appeared healthy.
Ondo State police public relations officer, Funmi Odunlami said investigation has commenced into the whereabout of the baby’s mother.
The founder of the church, Bishop John Ikoko, said after morning prayers in his home not far from the Church, he saw the baby after hearing the cry of a newborn in the Church.
According to the cleric, as soon as he opened the door of the church, he saw the new baby on the Altar, crying non stop.
He said it was very clear that the mother took the baby there because some items were found in the bag placed beside the baby.
The items are clothing, medicine, and plastic bottles known as feeding bottle.
