… Work To Be Done At Night To Ease Traffic

The Commissioner for Infrastructure, Lands, and Housing in Ondo State, Engr. Raimi Aminu, has paid an unscheduled visit to the project site of the ongoing construction at the Shoprite-Oda road roundabout as asphalt overlay of the road commenced late Thursday night.

The roundabout is the nerve that connects Oda road- Igbatoro and NEPA road to the state secretariat, making it one of the busiest spots in the state capital.

The Commissioner visited the site alongside the Chief Resident Engineer, Engr. Olutayo Funmilayo at exactly 11:30pm on Thursday when the asphalt overlay of the first layer, which is the binder course was ongoing.

Engr. Aminu while addressing journalists at the project site commended the contractors for paying attention to details.

He disclosed that due to the heavy traffic on the axis, the contractor has been mandated to work at night when little or no movement would be in the area.

“We have held meeting with the contractor and we specifically told him that we want this job delivered. But, only that work would be done at night. You can see when we got here they already started the asphalt overlay. What you are seeing is the binder course which is the first layer of the asphalt overlay.

“This way, no human or vehicular movement is obstructed. We are doing this for the convenience of our people. Particularly, when you consider that this is Yuletide period. And we are happy with the contractor, Dortmund Construction company.

“We have held meetings. We can also see here now that the outcome of our meeting is fruitful. They are paying attention to details and we are satisfied with the job done so far,” Aminu said.

Aminu who explained that the ongoing operation will connect with the already laid asphalt at the reaming stretch of the road, assured that the people of the area will enjoy good road into the new year and beyond.

He added that with the binder course been laid, it will put an end to the endless dust emanating from the crushed stone base course.

The Commissioner appreciated the Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, for his commitment to making life comfortable for the people.

“I thank Mr. Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, for changing the face of the state. This project is huge. The population in this environment is massive. We appreciate Mr. Governor for this giant stride,” he noted.

Some of the residents of the area who were present at the site thanked Governor Akeredolu for fulfilling his promises.

Mr. Ojo Odunayo, appreciated the Governor for the road development in the axis, adding that it will open up the area, develop the social-economic life of the people and reduce rural-urban migration.

Others who spoke appreciated that level of work done and the pace at which the work at the roundabout is ongoing, while describing it as strategic.
