No fewer than 30 students on Thursday benefitted from the maiden undergraduates’ empowerment programme of the Councilor of Uso-Emure-Ile ward II, Hon. Hammed Ibrahim.

The event held at Emure-Ile civic centre was attended by residents of the town including the Vice Chairman of Owo Local Government, Hon. Maxwell Omosuwa.

The convener of the empowerment programme, Hon. Ibrahim said the initiative is one of the decisive steps taken in a bid to contribute to humanity.

He used the opportunity of the event to again appreciate the residents of Uso/Emure-Ile Ward Ii for giving him the mandate to represent them at Owo Local Government Area Legislative Council.

“The thrust of our representation in Owo Local Government, in which I’ve been leading from the front in the last one year, is built on the viability of building human capacity and development. At this point, it is important to note that this resourceful idea was not birth just at the onset this administration, but a long manifestation of true character.

“Distinguished, prior to my political breakthrough, I have provided soft loan for small scale businesses, supported students in various levels and contributed to community development. As the Honorable representing Uso/Emure-Ile Ward II, I have facilitated relief packages for our aged parents, free application forms for 20 Technical College applicants, I have also sponsored two separate bills on the floor of the parliament, created opportunity for young individuals who are directly attached to my office, exposing themselves to wider leadership exposures/experiences and receiving monthly allowances. These are part of the major initiatives since we came on board.

“Today, we have taken this bold step forward as 30 undergraduates in our Ward, from various institutions across Nigeria will be awarded five thousand naira (N5,000) cash each, as contributions and encouragements in their academic pursuits. This development is also hoped to help us build the consciousness in our students that the society, and our Ward particularly, depends so much on them.

“On this note, I want to give sincere appreciation to Allah for the divine opportunity given to serve the good people of this Ward. I also appreciate all party leaders/members and Ward members for their unflinching supports I have enjoyed from the beginning of this administration. We have huge plans that will help position this Ward, and I reiterate my commitment to all our developmental agendas for realization through the help of God.

“I congratulate all beneficiaries of this bursary. It is a great deal that you’re all successfully shortlisted among over 50 applicants,” Ibrahim noted.
