Dr. Rasaq Oyelami Saliu, a medical doctor based in Ondo State has joined the race for the governorship election in Osun State.
Dr. Saliu in his declaration statement on Monday obtained by Precision Online Newspaper said he would be contesting the Governorship race under the tag “OrisunLagba 2022.”
He said contrary to popular belief that he should contest the 2023 presidential election, Dr. Saliu disclosed that he would prefer to run to become the next Governor of Osun State by July, 2022.
“My people, it is true that recently, some individuals and groups of Nigerians have continued to ask me to run for presidency. I have hosted a number of them. I can understand their thoughts and l thank them for considering me worthy of the position of the first citizen of Nigeria. However, l want them to know that l am already in the winning team, our APC. I shall prefer to work with whoever emerges as the candidate of my party after our presidential primary. I have confidence in the competence and caliber of the presidential aspirants emerging from the southwest of Nigeria.
“I was the leading governorship aspirant where we were in 2018. Most of you were with me and you remember the circumstances in which l stepped down for easy emergence of a candidate from Osun West. The rest is history. I am back to answer the call in the name of Eledumare and then with the support of the good people of Osun and our friends and well wishers worldwide. Join me as l run the race to become the next governor of the State of Osun to be elected on 16th July, 2022. I present to you “ORISUNLAGBA 2022.”
Dr. Saliu hails from Okua in Odo Otin Local Government Area of Ìpínlè Osun.
