The Osun State House of Assembly says it will engage expertise from the Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti on its legislative requirements.
The Speaker, Hon Timothy Owoeye stated this when playing host to the Management of the institution, led by the Vice Chancellor, Prof Edward Olanipekun and the leadership of the EKSU Alumni Association Worldwide led by its Global President, Engr Dipo Bamisaye in Osogbo, the state capital.
The speaker’s expression was contained in a statement by Olumide Abudu, EKSU Alumni Association’s Global PRO.
Hon. Owoeye, who is also an Alumnus of the University expressed joy for being honoured with the courtesy visit by the School Management and Alumni Association.
Earlier at a plenary, the Speaker introduced the team to the lawmakers.
The Speaker who expressed happiness on special invitations extended to him and the Osun State House of Assembly to the 40th Anniversary of EKSU and the Awards and Dinner of the Alumni Association slated for March 29th and 30th, pledged his support to all the activities of the Association at attaining its set goals.
“I recaII with nostalgia my days at UNAD now EKSU, it was a developmental period that prepared me for the leadership task ahead. I am grateful to the school, the management and my colleagues for the opportunity and their role in my growth”.
“I want to at this point urge the Vice Chancellor and his team to place more focus on the quality of graduates the school is churning out. Aside the need for academic excellence, we must also make sure our graduates are self-reliant who can survive in today’s world”.
“I have decided to include EKSU in our plans to make this legislative arm available to the best of the best students from all over Nigeria Notably would be students of Political Science, Public Administration and other citizen related courses who should primarily be the drivers and implementors of government policies”.
“Our Legislative Research Centre, a 30-computer digital library for the sole purpose of research work would also be made available to selected students who reside here in Osogbo for usage”.
“While immensely thanking you for your visit and support, I ask for better collaboration between the school and the 7th Assembly. We would be needing your expertise during our various legislative retreat and l am also open to more ideas on how we can move our nation forward”.
At a reception in the Speaker’s Lodge, the Vice Chancellor of Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti, Prof Edward Olanipekun solicited the support of well to do members of the Alumni Association at moving the institution to greater heights noting that government alone cannot fund education.
Prof Olanipekun commended the Alumni Association for the giant strides and influence at developing the institution at all times.
On his part, the Global President of EKSU Alumni Association Worldwide, Engr Dipo Bamisaye appreciated the Speaker and the lawmakers for the warm reception and show of love.
Engr Bamisaye called on other Alumni members to contribute their quotas to the Alma Mata through Endowment and other support programs as enshrined in the needs assessment booklet of the association.
The visit was facilitated by Osun Chapter Chairman of the Alumni Association, Owolabi Babafemi through the Special Adviser to Governor Gboyega Oyetola on Water Resources and Energy, Engr Ibitoye Adeniran Kilomodemo and Commissioner For Commerce, Industry & Co-operative, Dr Bode Olaonipekun.
The visit had in attendance all Management Staff of the institution, Alumni Association leadership which include immediate past President, Asiwaju Dr Oludotun Adetunberu, Global Secretary, Pastor Isaac Akinleye, Auditor, Barr Akinyemi Borode, Social Secretary, Mrs Folasade Olusegun, PRO, Olumide Abudu, Ekiti Chapter Chairman, Deji Osho.
