The National Moon-sighting committee has announced the commencement of fasting in Nigeria.
The committee made this known on its Twitter handle on Friday night.
It tweeted, “Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullah, Alhamdu Lillah, the crescent of Ramadan 1443H has been sighted at some locations in Nigeria.”
The Sultan of Sokoto, Saad Abubakar III has also announced the sighting on the national television.
The month of Ramadan is the 9th month of the Islamic calendar and it is observed as fasting by Muslims the world over.
