As part of efforts to improve on its
statutory functions to the people of the State in order to effectively police the environment from any infraction, achieve a more effective environmental compliance monitoring and get realtime response from complaints, Ondo State Environmental Protection Agency O’SEPA has established dedicated three telephone lines and also created official social media handlers on the Facebook Twitter and Instagram.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Environment Hon Oyeniyi Oseni who disclosed this during a chat with the Press in his office in Akure said this is the emerging best practices in the world to ensure the public buy into green environment policy of the State Government.
According to him the Agency’s decided to secure these telephone lines 08084345573, 0916 025 6219 and 0916 006 4919 from carefully selected global network services provider with state wide coverage in order to improve on its service to the public especially our response time to the people’s complaints on noticeable environmental impairment in their areas.
The Special Adviser opined that since it is obvious that the Agency’s operatives cannot be everywhere in the state at the same time, considering considering the vastness and composite nature of its land mass, monitoring environmental compliance is a big issue, hence the need to think out of the box by creating dedicated telephone lines and social media handlers to make it easier for the public to teach out to the agency in order to effectively police the environment.
Hon Oseni reasoned that apart from complementing the agency’s series of on going advocacy activities aimed at educating members of the public on the need to protect the environment, the dedicated telephone numbers and official social media handlers will enable members of the public to Report to O’SEPA’s any infraction going on in their environment.
The Special Adviser who returned from a study tour of Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency, LASEPA with the top management team of O’SEPA’s harped on the benefits of the familiarization visit to LASEPA.
According to Oseni the visit which enable the team to understudy the structures and operational procedures of LASEPA, equally provided the team a veritable first hands experience of how to carry out it’s activities of protecting Ondo State from environmental nuisances arising from human and industrial activities.
.
