Residents of Ilekun-Oda community in Akure South Local Government of Ondo State, have sent a “save our soul” message to the Governor of Ondo State, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu and the Commissioner for Works, Raimi Aminu, over the deplorable state of the only road that connect the community with Akure metropolis.

The residents plea was contained in an open letter signed by Mr Segun Oladoyin and made available to Precision Online Newspaper at the weekend.

They noted that the construction of the road, which was initially designed as a dual carriage one has been on for four years without completion.

According to them, Governor Akeredolu and Mr Aminu should as a matter of urgency pay a visit to the road in order to get an on-the-spot assessment of the situation.

The letter is reproduced below:

We write with broken hearts, what we, residents of Ilekun and Oda communities in Akure south local government area of Ondo state are passing through.

Foremost, we appreciate his excellency, governor Oluwarotimi for counting Shoprite-Oda town road worthy as one of the roads to be constructed by his administration.

we equally appreciate the governor for many road projects his administration has either constructed or rehabilitated in the last five years.

We want to also give kudos to the Aketi administration for many Akure street roads that have just been earmarked for rehabilitation by the present administration.

However, we are worried and sad by the deplorable state of our road, particularly, Ilekun-Oda road!

From available records, the initial intention of Mr. Governor is to construct a dual- carriage road from Shoprite to Oda town which then necessitated the bulldozing of the existing road to pave the way for a new and dual-carriage road.

But with a twist to the initial intention which nobody could authoritatively explain, the Ilekun-Oda road is completely neglected and the situation can only be imagined on visitation to the area.

Ninety-nine percent of our vehicles have been damaged as it is now difficult for any of our people to drive through the dungeon.

Commercial motorists including Okada riders would prefer to shuttle order ”peaceful” area than coming in- between Ilekun and other communities.

Though, the construction is not as fast as expected over four years of award, the case of residents between Shoprite and Weli-Weli junction is still far better!

Going forward, we hereby wish to passionately appeal to our “talk & do”governor to visit the area for self assessment.

In the alternative, we would also be happy if the honourable commissioner for works and infrastructure could visit the place.

we are pained!
