Every 15th of October is set aside by the United Nation to Commemorate the International White Cane day. The white mobility cane is a cane used by persons with visual impairment across the globe to navigate their ways independently.
Like other chapters, the Nigeria Association of the Blind, Ondo State chapter had a road show in Owo metropolis on Saturday, October 15, 2022. The road was to sensitize the public on the importance of the day.
The members converged on Mobil Junction, where they started the awareness and proceeded to the Olowo’s Palace.
The representative of the Olowo, High Chief Aladeseye welcomed members of the association on behalf of the monarch. He congratulated them for this year celebration and encouraged the public to come to the aid of persons with visual impairment when necessary emphasizing that they are person like us who are doing excellently well when given opportunity.
He assured the visually impaired community of the unflinching and relentless support of the Olowo, Kabiyesi Oba Gbadegesin Ogunoye III towards the well-being of persons with disability.
The Chairman, Mr Ojo Akilo in his response applauded the King, Olowo council and the entire people of Owo for their cooperation and accommodation.
He urged the monarch to organize sensitization programs which will avail the Owo populace the beauty and capability of persons with disabilities.
The order of programmes for the International White Cane Day celebration is listed herein: Thanksgiving service at Saints Andrew Anglican Church Owo which will come up on Sunday 16th of October 2022 and the unveiling of Blind soccer game ( A Special Football Meant for people with Visual Impairment) Which will take place on Tuesday 18th of October 2022 at the Ondo State Sport Complex Akure by 12p.m.
All well meaning Nigerians are urged to come and partake of this great experience.
