2023: Ondo Police Commissioner Meets Community Leaders

The Ondo State Commissioner of Police, CP Oyeyemi Oyediran, on Thursday met with leaders of various communities, in a conscious effort to foster peace among residents of the State.

In attendance were the representatives of the Igbira, Igala, Hausa, Fulani, Igbo and other community leaders.

Funmilayo Odunlami Omisanya, State Police Public Relations Officer, in a news release disclosed that the CP met with the leaders on issues relating to insecurity in the state especially kidnapping and the forthcoming General Elections.

The CP reiterated the fact that they are grassroots community leaders and are expected to direct the affairs of their people rightly.

He enjoined them to meet regularly, warn their people and monitor the activities of their children, wards, nomads and others in their areas.

The CP said, it is their civic responsibility to ensure their people act within the ambit of the law and respect the culture and tradition of the People of the area they live.

In the same vein, he admonished them to ensure non of their children/wards is used as a political tool for destruction and disruption of electoral process.

The Chairman of Miyetti Allah for the state, Alhaji Bello appreciated the CP for the meeting and said he will ensure the message is well passed across to his people.

The Seriki Hausa Community for Ondo West Local Government Area, also promised to call all the people from the Northern extraction in his domain and warn them against being part of Crime in the state, be watchdogs for the police and also report any criminal element among their people.

Another prominent leader of the group promised that they will work in tandem with the Police to flush out the criminal elements in the state.

The CP appreciated the leaders for pledging their support in ensuring the state enjoys relative peace and that their children/wards will be properly warned not to partake in any form of crime in the state.

The CP assured that the police and other security agencies will work assiduously to ensure a crime free holiday during the festive period and beyond.
