NGO Stresses Importance Of Mentorship, Innovation For Career Success

The Nasir Giwa Mentorship Platform (NGM), a Lagos-based NGO, is providing a clear path towards a successful career for undergraduates, professionals and business owners.

Rising from its maiden annual conference, themed “Promoting Innovative Leaders of Tomorrow,” the parley emphasised on the need for students and professionals to aim high and excel in all ramifications.

In his welcome speech, the Grand Mentor and Promoter of the Platform, Engr. Nasir Giwa, encouraged the participants to aim for the best and strive for excellence.

“NGM is a special community where we aim for the best and instil excellence in our mentees,” he said.

Giwa who emphasised the importance of having a mentor and being accountable, added that the platform will continue to encourage excellence performance of all members.

Delivering a keynote speech, Dr. Akintoye Akindele, Chairman of Platform Capital Investment Partners, urged the participants to view challenges as opportunities.

“Failure means the outcome you get is not desired, but since you had an outcome, you are still in progress. You’re in motion towards success, “Akindele added.

The conference covered various topics, including “Leadership that Gets Results: What Got You Here Won’t Get You There,” “Channelling Innovation to Become a Maven in a Dynamic World,” and “Treading the Track of Tenacity.”

The panellists included CEO of Landmark Africa, Paul Onwuanibe, CFO of MTN Nigeria, Modupe Kadri, Olayinka Subair, Country Manager Pfizer Nigeria, and KPMG Partner, Bimpe Afolabi amongst others.

Highlight of the event include a reward on one of NGM mentees, Miss Rahmah Arogundade, who was the Best Graduating Student with a perfect CGPA of 5.0 from Bells University.

The mentee received a cash prize of N750,000 from NGM, with presentation done by the duo of Dr. Akintoye, and Mr. Modupe Kadri, in recognition of her academic excellence and to motivate other mentees.

The conference featured captains of various industries, experienced professionals and was attended by over 700 people from all walks of life.

NGM is a mentorship community for students, as well as early and mid-stage career professionals who aspire to be leaders, entrepreneurs, or business executives.

Wrapping up on the conference, Abdulsalam Akinlusi, the Deputy Chairman of the organising committee said “the conference was a great success, and NGM looks forward to continuing to provide mentorship and support for aspiring leaders and entrepreneurs and also hold more editions of this conference in the nearest future”.
