Hilda Bassey Effiong, fondly called Hilda Baci, is a Nigerian chef who is on the verge of breaking the record for the Guinness Books of Record World’s longest cooking marathon.
Many Nigerians – on mainstream and social media platforms- have drummed support for Hilda by cheering her on and lending virtual support as she is set to put the country on the international radar.
They also commended Hilda for being bold, resilient and determined in making a statement.
The current record for the world’s longest cooking marathon is held by Lata Tondon.
Lata completed the task in 87 hours, and 45 minutes in India in 2019.
Tagged the ‘Hilda Baci Cook-a-thon’, the 27-year-old chef started her 4-day cooking marathon challenge on the 11th of May at Amore Gardens in Lekki, Lagos and it will end on May 14.
The 97-hour cook-a-thon offers her the opportunity to showcase her culinary skills using various local and intercontinental recipes.
She is a graduate of Sociology from Madonna University, Okija, Anambra State and her foray into catering was influenced by her mother’s culinary techniques.
The multi-talented actress, TV producer and host hails from Akwa Ibom, revered for its rich culture, and cuisines.
After establishing My Food with her brother as a student, she extended her skills to TV, starting with the cooking segment, In my Kitchen, on Rave TV’s breakfast show, Morning Rave.
She was also the host of Dine on A Budget on Pop Central TV, where she engaged celebrities on topical issues while treating them to a great dining experience.
Her cooking talent was further showcased in 2021 when she emerged winner of the Jollof Faceoff Competition challenge in Ghana, going home with a $5,000 winning prize.
Hilda is the Chief Executive Officer of My Food by Hilda – a fast-food restaurant in Lekki.
She also teaches culinary lessons online and physically; the results have been worthwhile.
She has also starred in a couple of movies playing the supporting lead role in Dreamchaser, nominated for best film in the Multichoice factory for the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA).
She also featured in prominent movies and soap operas, including Sideways, Flatmates, A Walk on the Water, and Mr. & Mrs. Robert. In 2020, sharing the stage with Tobi Bakare, former Big Brother Naija housemate, Hilda co-hosted Y’ello Star, a music reality project by MTN.
