There seems to be light at the end of the tunnel, as the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) has promised to rehabilitate the deplorable roads in Ondo State, especially the failed portions of Ipele-Idoani-Isua Akoko and Elegbeka-Ifon in Ose Local Government Area of the State.

This was contained in a letter written to the House of Assembly by the Agency in reply to the earlier letter by the House to demand FERMA intervention on the pitiable condition of the roads.

Sequel to a letter written to FERMA by the leadership of the House on the urgent need to attend to the deplorable roads, the Agency has given assurance that necessary steps would be taken to find a lasting solution to the road.

According to a letter which was signed by one Engr. Olubunmi Adeyemi, the Agency sympathized with motorists plying the roads, saying that palliative works were recently carried out by them on some critical points between Molege- Elegbeka-Ifon roads.

While describing the poor condition of the road as a serious threat to lives of Individuals, he pleaded with people in the areas to exercise patience as something urgent would be done soon.

“We really sympathize with the road users with the deplorable condition of these roads. These threats were caused primarily due to the absence of proper drainage system at the locations and the heavy downpour in recent times led to the quick deterioration of the submerged sections of these roads”, he said.

Adeyemi further explained that the Agency is awaiting approval and release of funds from the Federal Government as this would give permanent repairs to the ‘blackspots’.

Commenting on the letter, the Speaker, Ondo State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Olamide Oladiji, expressed displeasure over the terrible condition of the roads, saying that the House had decided to write FERMA on the need to carry out their primary duties of maintaining Federal Roads across the Country.

Speaking on behalf of other Lawmakers, Oladiji, expressed concern that the roads had been abandoned and seemed to be totally out of control.

While calling of FERMA to quickly intervene in the fixing of the roads as soon as possible, the Speaker lamented that numerous incidents of kidnapping take place daily on the road.
