On this momentous occasion of the 89th birthday of General (Dr.) Yakubu Gowon (B.783), GCFR the Barewa Old Boys Association (BOBA) proudly celebrates the life and achievements of an exceptional statesman and leader who has left an indelible mark on Nigeria’s history. General Gowon stands as a living legend whose legacy will continue to serve as a source of inspiration for current and future generations.
We celebrate General Gowon not only as Nigeria’s longest-serving uninterrupted leader, but also as the greatest catalyst for preserving Nigeria’s unity and sovereignty at the most challenging period in the nation’s history. Youthful as he was then, the General was endowed with Solomonic wisdom, strategic acumen and deep commitment to secure the oneness of the nation .To him , till today “To keep Nigeria One is a Task that Must be Done”. This absolute faith in Nigeria is fittingly captured as the full meaning of his name : Go On With One Nigeria .
The “No Victor, No Vanquished” policy and the unflinching commitment to the reconciliation , reintegration and rehabilitation programme of the FG created a sense of belonging and endeared General Gowon to all Nigerians. Indeed, Nigeria’s economic prosperity and security during the Gowon era remain nostalgic as they are unparalleled in the annals of our history.
At BOBA, we are greatly delighted and grateful to the Almighty for preserving the life of the ever charming and cheerful Chairman of our Board of Trustees to witness his 89th birthday. We stand united in celebrating this most distinguished gentleman officer . We fully identify with his enduring legacy exemplified by the virtues of leadership, reconciliation, and service to the nation. We are reminded that he remains a shining example and beacon of hope for a peaceful and prosperous Nigeria.
