Barring unforeseen circumstances, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ondo State Council under the leadership of Prince Leke Adegbite will begin its 2023 Press Week Celebrations on Sunday, November 26.
A statement made available to newsmen on Saturday by the Chairman of Press Week Committee, Mr. Bolu-Olu Esho and Secretary, Mrs. Omosileola Adesoye- Ajayi, the week-long event is themed: “Place Of The Media In Times Of Socio-Economic Predicaments & Ondo State Politics”.
The statement noted that the Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, who is the Union’s Grand Patron; the State Deputy Governor, Hon Lucky Aiyedatiwa; the Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo; the Minister of State for Youths, Ayodele Olawande among others will grace the occasion.
“Also expected to grace the occasion includes National Assembly members, state lawmakers, members of the State Executive Council, the state PDP Chairman, Alhaji Fatai Adams and the APC Chairman, Engr Ade Adetimehin, traditional rulers including the Deji of Akure Kingdom, Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi and the Olumoru of Imoru, Oba Rotimi Obamuwagun and top government functionaries”
“Some Ondo State Indigenes will be honoured by the union with Distinguished Awards of Excellence, while practicing journalists will also be honoured for their professional duties during the year.”
Among those to be honored are: the Head of Service, Ondo State, Pastor Kayode Ogundele; Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Wale Akinterinwa; Vice Chancellor of AAUA, Prof. Olugbenga Ige; Proprietor of Mummy’s Place Nursery & Primary Int’l School, Akure, Dr. (Mrs) Damilola Oshin; MHR from Odigbo/Ileoluji-OkeIgbo, Hon Festus Adefiranye and CEO, Evershine films and travel Nig. Ltd, Mr. Aanuoluwapo Samuel Ijiti.

- Sunday, 26th November, 2023, thanksgiving at New Covenant Church behind Goodness Event Centre, Agagu road, off Ondo road, Akure.
2. Monday, 27th November 2023, Charity visitation at 10am, free medical outreach for Journalists, Veteran Journalists & their spouses at Alagbaka NUJ Press Centre Clinic, Alagbaka Akure between 9am to 4pm.
3. Tuesday, 28th November 2023, opening ceremony/symposium-public lecture/investiture. Lead Speakers: Engr. Ifeoluwa Oyedele, Hon. Abayomi Sheba, Engr. Adeolu Akinwumi and Barr. Olumuyiwa Adu.
4. Wednesday 28th November 2023, Health walk, children’s party and final of in-door at NUJ Press Centre Akure.
5. Thursday, 28th November 2023, Jazzz/Asun Night 6pm, Novelty Match @Ondo State Sports Complex, Akure by 1.00pm.
6. Friday: Jumat Service at the Govt House Mosque, 1pm; Dinner and award night 3pm at NUJ Press Centre.
7. Saturday, 2nd September, 2023: Hosting of Southwest NUJ Leaders @Press Centre.
