UBEC’s Boss Underscores Importance Of Strategic Communication In Implementation Of UBE’s Policy

The Executive Secretary of Universal Education Commission UBEC, Dr Hamid Bobboyi has underscored the importance of strategic Communication in the delivery of Universal Basic Education, UBE, policy across the country.

He made the assertion during a courtesy call on him by a delegation of the Forum of UBEC’S and SUBEBS Heads of Public Relations and Protocols Units in his office at the Corporate Headquarters of the Commission in Abuja.

The Heads of UBEC’S and SUBEBS Public Relations and Protocols came to Abuja after the end of their 2- Day Annual Retreat that took place from from the 5th – 6th of December in Mararaba Nasarawa State.

According to UBEC’S Chief Executive information dissemination especially strategic Communication of the activities and programmes of UBEC especially that of SUBEBS to the general public is as important as building infrastructures for the growth and development of the basic education sector.

Dr Bobboyi who asked that of what importance in building infrastructures that dotted every knocks and corners of the villages in the country and carrying out capacity trainings for teachers without informing the public?

He said there is a need for a conceited efforts to continually create awareness on the activities of UBEC as well as those of State Universal Education Boards and publicize same so that the stakeholders as well as the public know that the Agencies are delivery on their mandates.

The Executive Secretary who underlined the needs to properly situates and do the needs assessment of the UBEC and SUBEBS Public Relations activities said there is an urgent need to change the wrong perception the public held about the agencies and the PR is the only organ of the Agencies to do this.

“To do this effectively there is need for the Commission as well as SUBEBS to find a way to directly and independently fund their Publicity and Public Relations activities like they have done for some departments and units such as Academics Services, Quality Assurance, Social Mobilization, Agriculture, etc from the Annual UBEC/SUBEB ACTION-PLANS”

The Executive Secretary who apologized for the initial liturgical approach to Publicity and Public Relations activities of UBEC and SUBEB said the situation and the narrative will change for the better from now

Earlier, the National Secretary of the Forum Dr Okey Ihebiakhaya, who is also Head Public Relations and Protocols, Abia State Universal Basic Education Board commended the Executive Secretary and his team for doing well in carrying out the mandates of UBE.

According him, this must have influenced the decision of Mr President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR to reappoint his for another term despite pressure from vested interests.

National Secretary of the Forum of SUBEBS PROs Dr Ihebiakhaya who described Dr Bobboyi as a good Father appealed to him to ensure that UBEC’S and SUBEBS PR and Protocols Units have the financial wherewithal and autonomy to carry out its planned activities maximally and
professionally.

The Executive Secretary of UBEC’S directed the Forum the leadership of the forum in partnership with UBEC’S Public Relations and Protocol Unit to quickly come with the templates and modalities for the actualization of the forum demands

The delegation was led to the visit by the Head of UBEC Public Relations Unit has Mr David Apeh, National Secretary Dr Okey Ihebiakhaya and Prince Bolu Ajijo Ondo SUBEB.

Others on the team are PROs Nasarawa State Mr Gana Lawal, that of Kebbi, Kano and Protocol Officer of UBEC Mrs Kemi Asinu.
