The body of late Governor of Ondo State, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu arrived Nigeria on Friday.
Akeredolu died on Wednesday, December 27, 2023 in Germany from prostrate cancer.
Chief Bamidele Ademola-Olateju, Ondo State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, confirmed the development in a news release made available to Precision Online Newspaper.
The release read;
“This evening, the body of our late Governor, Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu SAN, CON body arrived Nigeria.
“It was an emotional moment seeing the coffin come out of the belly of the aircraft, draped with Nigerian flag, with the nation’s coat of arms embossed on it. Family members, friends, and political associates wept as the body of the late Governor was lowered from the plane,” the statement added.
Ademola-Olateju further disclosed that the late governor’s younger brother, Prof. Wole Akeredolu led his family to receive the body.
The Ondo state government delegation were;
Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Engr Ade Adetimehin; member House of Representatives, Hon. Gboyega Adefarati; Rt. Hon Olabimtan, Deaconess Lola Fagbemi, Dr. Banji Ajaka, Yèyé-Ọba Bamidele Ademola-Olateju, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye and Tobi Ogunleye.
The delegation was led by the Secretary to the state government, Princess Catherine Oladunni Odu.
Representatives of Southwest Governors were also on hand. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu was represented by his Chief of Staff, Mr Tayo Ayinde; Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, represented by the Secretary to the State Government; Mr Tokunbo Talabi represented the Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke.
“His remains have been deposited at the morgue until the burial. Details of the burial will be made public as soon as plans are concluded,” the release noted.
