The Chairman of the Ondo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Rt Hon. Victor Olabimtan has disclosed that the board created 13 new primary schools in 2023.

Olabimtan disclosed this during the maiden meet-the-media parley on Tuesday to discuss the progress of the board.

According to the former Ondo speaker, SUBEB was able to create the 13 schools when communities write to the board.

Emphasizing that the ministry of education is responsible for the creation of schools, Mr Olabimtan said SUBEB was able to intervene by providing advisory role to communities.

He encouraged communities to write to the SUBEB and then the board would guide them on how to actualize the project.

The supare-born politician noted that such communities are encouraged to find a building of their choice very close to an existing primary school. He added that such building will now become an annex to the existing school in the community.

He further said through that process the actualization of a new primary school for such community will commence.

Olabimtan who said a lot would have been done by government if there is adequate funds available at its disposal, bemoaned the non-payment of taxes by the people.

He said Nigerians don’t pay taxes when compared to global practice, adding that no development would be achieved in such manner.

Olabimtan appreciated efforts put in place by the government to develop education at the primary level, adding that pupils of the SUBEB schools are doing great I international competitions and competitive sporting competitions.

He said the new curriculum as put in place by the UBEC is ICT and knowledge driven.
