(Akure, Precision): Funmilayo Waheed-Adekojo, a female aspirant in the Saturday direct primary election of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, has called on delegates of the party to ignore zoning and vote for her.
The political arrangements in Ondo State had always support zoning since the return of democracy to the country in 1999.
But Engr Waheed-Adekojo is of the view that zoning won’t bring about competence and capacity in which she stood for.
The female aspirant stated this during a press conference in Akure, the Ondo State capital on Friday.
“We must break free from the cycle of stagnation and narrow-mindedness based on informal political arrangements. Let us be intentional about unlocking the full potential of our dear sunshine state by embracing a model that prioritizes merit, competence, character and capacity, not a zoning arrangement that had failed, to help Ondo state unlock the full potential of its abundant resources and improve the livelihoods of indigenes and residents.”
The COREN certified engineer then urged the leadership of the APC in Abuja to support her being a female and loyal member of the party.
“It will not be out of place for the entire party, APC and the Presidency to support the only female aspirant in the race to the Alagbaka Government House, who has assured people of the State that if given the opportunity, I transform the State.”
When asked about the possibility of stepping down for another aspirant in the party, Waheed-Adekojo admitted that her loyalty is only to the party national leadership, adding that if such directive emanated from them, she will gladly concur.
The aspirant was accompanied to the press conference by her loyalists and campaign team led by Mr Ibrahim Azeez Dotun, her campaign Director General.
16 aspirants in the APC will slug it out tomorrow Saturday, April 20 to pick the party’s candidate, ahead of the November 20, 2024 governorship election in Ondo State.
