Ondo State Commissioner for Water Resources, Public Sanitation and Hygiene; Hon. Sunday Akinwalire, says residents of the State will start enjoying clean and accessible water in the next 18 months, when the French Development Agency (AFD) co-financed water project of Owena Multipurpose Dam would have been completed.
Hon. Akinwalire made the disclosure following the completion of a 3-day Supervision/Monitoring Mission involving the Federal Project Implementation Unit (FPIU), State Project Implementation Unit (SPIU), Federal Ministry of Finance (FMF) and AFD that took place in Akure, the Ondo state capital.
Representatives of the Federal & State Ministry of Finance, Federal & State Ministry of Water Resources, and the French Development Agency (AFD), among others, had converged on Akure for the monitoring mission on the co-financed water projects.
A representative of the national project coordinator, Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation, Kasim Mohammad Nafiu, said the team is satisfied with the measures taken so far by the State Government, regarding the project.
On her part, a senior administrative officer with the federal ministry of finance, Mrs. Ada Chukwu, said the state is behind schedule owing to political activities in the last year, adding that the project is, however, picking up.
The Commissioner in charge of water resources in the State, Hon. Sunday Akinwalire, said the project, which is now in the physical component stage, is expected to be completed in the next 18 months.
The general manager of Ondo State Water Corporation, Engr. Remigus Ogunjobi, said the project, which commenced in 2018, will be beneficial to all when completed, adding that the soft component of the project has been completed.
According to him, the physical component of the project would commence soon, which will translate to the provision of potable water to the people of Ondo Central Senatorial District in the first phase of the project. Other Senatorial Districts are expected to enjoy same dividend soonest.
