The management of Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba-Akoko (AAUA) Ondo state, has solicited voluntary donations from students, staff, Alumni and friends of the university for the construction of a 500-capacity hall of residence worth N4.5 billion.
The university in a statement by its Registrar, Olugbenga Arajulu explained that the construction of the hostel project was planned to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the university.
He noted that the institution which will clock 25 years on November 4,2024 has witnessed tremendous growth and making impacts in the global academic space, “in line with the vision and mission of its founding fathers in the last 25 years of Its establishment.”
Arajulu revealed that the hostel project became necessary over the growing population of students in the university, saying that, ” it is our desire that at least 70% of our students are housed on campus in a way that would engender an environment conducive for teaching, learning and research, the dearth in the financial resources available to the University amidst the current economic realities has drastically affected our ability to deliver on this mandate.”
According to him, ” Within these last 25 years of its establishment, AAUA has been feted as a multiple award- winning University and one of the most subscribed and fastest growing Universities in Nigeria. However, the University is grossly constrained by the shortage in the availability of accommodation for our students on campus going by the development in academic programmes and the yearly increase in our students’ population.
” Therefore, as we look forward to the occasion of the AAUA 25th Year Anniversary, the University Management has resolved to make the construction of a 500-capacity Hall of Residence a priority and a dedicated anniversary project among the University’s numerous needs. The project has been estimated at N4.5Billion naira only.
” We cannot achieve this alone; hence, we have decided to seek the joint support of our alumni, staff, students, friends of the University and public-spirited individuals for kind voluntary donations towards the AAUA 25th Anniversary Project.
” The level of the voluntary donations has been categorised as follows:
Students: Minimum of Two thousand naira (N2,000) voluntary donation.
Staff/Alumni/Friends of the University: Minimum of Ten thousand naira (N10,000) voluntary donation.
Philanthropists: As may be determined by the donor.
