Ruud van Nistelrooy has been directed to take charge of Manchester United as interim head coach.

This followed the sack of erstwhile coach, Erik Ten Hag by the Manchester United management.

The statement by the club’s management noted that Nistelrooy, a former striker at the club, would be supported by the current coaching team, whilst a permanent head coach is recruited.

“Erik ten Hag has left his role as Manchester United men’s first-team manager.

“Erik was appointed in April 2022 and led the club to two domestic trophies, winning the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024.

“We are grateful to Erik for everything he has done during his time with us and wish him well for the future,” the statement read.

Recent performance by the Manchester team has shown that Ten Hag was on his way out.

A lost to Aston Villa on Sunday seems to be the last struck that broke the back of the camel.
