319 students have benefited from Achievers University Owo 100% tuition free Programmes.
The Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Omolola Irinoye disclosed this at a press conference heralding the 14th Convocation Ceremony as well as the 17th Anniversary of the University.
Prof. Irinoye said the gesture is in pursuance of the philosophy of promoting access to higher education to young people who may be denied the opportunity for lack of huge resources.
She however encouraged parents and guardians to optimize the 100% tuition free grace of Achievers University Council in 12 programmes. The programmes are; Guidance and Counseling, Library and Information Science, Biology Education, Chemistry Education, Civil and Environmental Engineering,Remote Sensing and Geoscience Information System.
Others are; Plant Science and Biotechnology, Sociology, Procurement Management, Banking and
Finance, Economics and Health Information Management.
While speaking on the 14th Convocation,the Vice Chancellor said the University will award degrees to 700 graduates.
She stated that out of the 654 graduates, 71 are graduating with First Class Honours, 303 with Second Class Honours Upper Division, 243 with Second Class Honours Lower Division and 35 with Third Class Honours, while 46 graduates will receive their awards in various field from the school of Postgraduate Studies.
She added that Honourary Degree awards will be given to three distinguished Nigerians who have distinguished themselves in various capacities,with exemplary courage, commitment and dedication to the promotion of social welfare and wellbeing of Nigerians.
The Honorary awardees are; His Excellency, Muhammed Umar Bago, the Executive Governor of Niger State, Dr. Fidelis Akhagboso Ayebae, Managing Director, Fidson Healthcare Plc., Lagos and Oba Adedokun Abolarin, Orangun of Oke-Ila Osun State.
On Infrastructure Facilities, She said ” despite the economic challenges with the far-reaching consequences, Achievers University endeavors to expand the infrastructural and technology base for quality teaching-learning and healthy work environment. We are building more lecture halls, implementing purpose-built structures for different programmes, expanding our infrastructure for a technology empowered and driven institution, starting additional structures for our medical school among others for quality education.Quality accommodation for our staff is our priority as more members of staff get accommodated in the University staff quarters.”
Highlighting the various activities lined up for the University’s 14th Convocation, Prof. Irinoye said “on Tuesday 10th December 2024 by 10am, we shall be presenting 143 graduates nurses to the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria for induction as Registered Nurses (RN) and Registered Midwives(RM).This will be our fifth induction ceremony for graduate nurses.
On Wednesday, 11th December, 2024, we shall equally be presenting 12 graduates from our engineering programmes to the Council for Registration of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN). This set will be the third to be inducted. For the first time 17 Public Health graduates will also be inducted by the African Institute of Public Health Professionals (AIPHP). Again, on Thursday, 12th December 2024, we shall also be presenting 65 graduates to the Medical Laboratory Council of Nigeria for induction and registration as Medical Laboratory Scientists. This would be our 13th induction ceremony.”
On Friday 13th December is the Convocation Lecture to be delivered by Oba Adedokun Abolarin (Orangun of Oke-Ila, Osun State),While Saturday 14th December 2024 is the Convocation proper.
