Achievers University has appointed Alhaji Adebayo Olagunju, as acting Registrar with effect from Monday, February 17, 2025.
The appointment of Olagunju follows the end of tenure of the former Registrar, Revd Canon Samuel Bayode Oladimeji on Friday, February 14.
The news of Olagunju’s appointment is contained in a management memo signed by the institution’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Omolola Irinoye, and obtained by Precision Online Newspaper.
“This is to inform the University community that the Registrar, Rev. Canon Bayode Oladimeji will proceed on end of tenure leave on 17th February 2025 after a successful 5-year tenure in office as Registrar.
“The University Council has directed Alhaji Adebayo Olagunju to resume in the office as Acting Registrar with effect from 17th February, 2025, pending the appointment of substantive Registrar,” the statement added.
Alhaji Sulaiman Adebayo Olagunju attended the University of Ilorin, Ilorin (1987-1991); Nigerian Institute of Journalism, Ogba, Lagos (1992-1993); and Babcock University, Ilishan- Remo, Ogun State (2011-2013) where he was awarded Bachelor of Arts (Education), Language Arts (English); Postgraduate Diploma in Public Relations; and Masters of Science in Mass Communication (Public Relations) respectively. He is an Associate of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR).
Olagunju had worked with the Federal Civil Service, from where he was posted to the Nigerian Air Force and taught in its Air Force Secondary School, Ikeja, Lagos before he joined Tell Communications Limited, also in Ikeja, publishers of Tell magazine. He left the media outfit as head of its Copy Desk to join Achievers University as Senior Assistant Registrar (Media)/Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the University on 2nd May, 2008, exactly a month after the University commenced academic activities.
While combining his role as the University’s PRO – except for a few months, he has worked as Senior Assistant Registrar/College Secretary, College of Social and Management Sciences (COSMAS) and Principal Assistant Registrar/Secretary, School of Postgraduate from where he was posted to the main Registry of the University in 2019. He was promoted Deputy Registrar in October 2020.
Apart from all these roles, he has been the Editor of the University’s newsletter, Achievers News, since the inception of the University; Secretary, Passages and Accommodation Bureau; Secretary, Achievers University Flexible Academic Programme (AU-FAP); and member, Ceremonials Committee. He was also the Secretary, Joint Council and Senate Selection Board for the selection of Vice-Chancellor and Registrar of the University (February 2020).
Olagunju’s driving force has always been his desire to touch lives and contribute his own quota to the uplift of his environment, using his God-endowed resources, skills, attributes and knowledge.
