Ondo 2024: INEC Commends Journalists,Media Practitioners for Displaying Professionalism

    The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has commended journalists and media practitioners in Ondo State for their professionalism during the Ondo State governorship elections held on November 16, 2024.

    INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Ondo State, Mrs Oluwatoyin Babalola disclosed this at an interactive session with the media at the State INEC headquarters Alagbaka, Akure.

    She commended the Journalists for their efforts to ensure that the electorates were well informed before, during, and after the election and their dedication to factual, timely, and balanced reportage played a crucial role in fostering public trust and confidence in the electoral process.

    “You strongly played your role as the bridge between electoral institutions and the people throughout the electioneering period. You ensured that accurate information was disseminated, misinformation was countered, and a platform for civic engagement was provided. Your insightful analyses, investigative reports, and real-time updates helped to educate voters, make the process peaceful, and enhance the credibility of the process,” Mrs Babalola added.

    She noted that the media efforts have been instrumental in equipping stakeholders with the necessary information, ultimately contributing to a well-informed electoral process that significantly fostered a peaceful election.

    “There is no doubt that Ondo State 2024 Governorship Election has set a standard for the conduct of future elections in Nigeria. We would not have achieved this feat without your cooperation. I must say the dedication to democracy as displayed by various media groups during the election was highly commendable.”

    The INEC REC in Ondo State however urged media practitioners in the state to continue upholding the ethics of the profession and remain steadfast in their duty to inform, educate, and empower the public, adding that
    INEC Ondo State remains committed to strengthening the partnership with the media.

    “We will continue to provide you with timely access to information, and improve communication channels as our future electoral assignments unfold. Your feedback and constructive criticism are invaluable in improving our electoral processes, our doors are always opened for clarifications, while we welcome continued dialogue and collaboration.”
