The Akoko Youths Forum will be honoring three exceptional Akoko sons who made remarkable contributions to our land. They are; His Excellency Adebayo Adefarati, Prophet T. B. Joshua, and Chief Rufus Giwa. These icons dedicated their lives to service, development, and empowerment, leaving behind legacies that continue to shape lives today.
His Excellency Adebayo Adefarati (1931–2007): The Visionary Leader
Born in Akungba Akoko, Adebayo Adefarati was not only a distinguished politician but a man deeply committed to the development of Ondo State. As Governor from 1999 to 2003, he prioritized education, rural development, and infrastructure growth. He was a firm believer in free education, ensuring that young people, regardless of their background, had access to learning. His efforts in road construction and electrification helped connect rural communities, improving commerce and daily life.
Beyond governance, Adefarati was a symbol of integrity and selfless leadership, setting a standard for what it means to serve the people. His passion for Akoko’s progress remains an inspiration, and we honor him for his unwavering commitment to the future of our land.
Prophet T.B. Joshua (1963–2021): A Global Humanitarian and Spiritual Leader
Temitope Balogun Joshua, fondly called T.B. Joshua, was born in Arigidi Akoko and became one of the most influential spiritual leaders in Nigeria and beyond. As the founder of The Synagogue, Church of All Nations (SCOAN), he transformed lives through his philanthropy, humanitarian work, and teachings of love and faith.
His generosity knew no bounds—from feeding the poor to supporting widows, sponsoring students, and offering relief materials in times of crisis. Even in his passing, his legacy of giving continues through the structures and lives he impacted. Prophet T.B. Joshua embodied the Akoko spirit of compassion, resilience, and unwavering belief in community upliftment.
Chief Rufus Giwa (1942–2003): A Pioneer in Business and Economic Development
Born in Okeagbe Akoko, Chief Rufus Giwa was a distinguished chartered accountant and administrator whose impact on Nigeria’s economic and corporate sector was profound. He played a key role in business growth, financial management, and corporate leadership, making significant contributions to the private and public sectors.
As a former Chairman of Odua Investment Company Limited, he was instrumental in expanding business opportunities and creating jobs, especially for young professionals. His name remains synonymous with professional excellence, integrity, and economic development. Today, his legacy lives on, especially with Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, which continues to equip young minds with the knowledge and skills needed for success.
The Akoko Youth Association is honoring these great men not just for their achievements but for the deep impact they made on our people. Their stories remind us that leadership, service, and vision can change the course of history.
