His Imperial Majesty, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade I, was on Saturday, April 5 crowned the 46th Alaafin of Oyo, succeeding the late Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, who reigned for over five decades until his passing on 22 April 2022 at the age of 83.

Born 47 years ago into the distinguished Owoade-Agunloye royal lineage of the Agure Compound in historic Oyo Town, Oba Owoade brings to the throne a wealth of professional experience and international exposure.

He commenced his formal education at Baptist High School, Saki, where he completed his secondary education. He then pursued a National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering at the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro (1994–1997), followed by a Higher National Diploma from The Polytechnic, Ibadan (1999–2001).

In 2002, he undertook his mandatory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) assignment with the Nigerian Gas Company, where he served as a mechanical intern and planner. Oba Owoade went on to work with Oceanic Bank International Plc in Warri, Delta State, as a cashier from 2003 to 2004.

Furthering his education abroad, he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Sunderland (2008) and Northumbria University (2012) in the United Kingdom. In June 2015, he became a certified Project Management Professional (PMP), enhancing his credentials in global project execution and planning.

Oba Owoade gained significant experience as a planning engineer at Oil Reach Company in Glasgow, Scotland, before relocating to Canada. Before his ascension to the throne, he served as a project coordinator with Manitoba Hydro, one of Canada’s leading electric power and natural gas utility providers.

A dual citizen of Nigeria and Canada, Oba Owoade is also a seasoned entrepreneur and philanthropist. He is the president of Manitoba Limited and previously operated a successful real estate and financial services enterprise in Manitoba. (VON)
