The University of Ilesa (UNILESA) has entered into a memorandum of understanding with the Canadian Education Council (CEC) for the development of the capacity of its students and staff.

At the signing of the dotted lines in Ilesa on Monday, Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Taiwo Asaolu said the partnership reinforces the varsity’s commitment to producing high-quality graduates.

“I strongly believe this collaboration will provide valuable services, enhancing our students’ global relevance and competitiveness. Our University is committed to producing well-rounded graduates with competitive advantages.

“Recently, six students achieved a 100% pass rate in ICAN’s ATSWA Part III examination, showcasing our academic excellence. Other programmes had been encouraged to prepare their students for professional qualifications. If students are academically and professionally qualified upon graduation, they stand more better chance of getting employed,” Asaolu remarked.

He urged stakeholders to work together to make the partnership a success.

“This semester, our entrepreneurship programme will introduce students to practical skills in areas like Coding, Website design, Fashion design, Agricultural processing, Photography, Makeup artistry, etc.

“The entrepreneurship training aims to equip students with vocational skills for self-reliance and an entrepreneurial mindset for economic production and prosperity.

“The Canadian Education Council programme will share facilities with our Career Service Centre. I am happy that the facilities for the University’s Career Centre are almost completed. The Centre would be up and running very soon,” he noted.

On his part, CEC Company Director, Dr. Adedoyin John noted that its organization’s partnership with UNILESA will compliment the effort of the leadership of the institution.

He informed the gathering that the CEC has a mandate to promoting Canadian Education in Nigeria by introducing its programmes to Nigerian varsities.

“We have international career centers in schools in Nigeria to encourage the students to work, learn and connect.

“We have an internship programme that will help the students to learn and also improve the global ranking of the school. This will foster career opportunities for students in professional courses. Staff can also tale advantage of our services,” Adedoyin remarked.

This is the second time in a week UNILESA will be going into partnership with an educational institution that share similar goal. The first was the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex (OAUTHC).
