Akeredolu Backs Akure’s Demand For Teaching Hospital At FUTA | The Precision

The Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, has
expressed support for the demand of Akure people to have a Teaching
Hospital established at the Federal University of Technology, Akure.

Speaking at the Palace of Deji of Akure, Oba Ogunlade Aladetoyinbo
Aladelusi, while welcoming the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo,
SAN to Ondo State, Governor Akeredolu described the request as genuine
one that will enhance the wellbeing of the state.

Arakunrin Akeredolu said in view of the approval granted FUTA to
offer courses in Medicine, a Teaching Hospital for the University has
become desirable.

While welcoming the Vice-president to his palace, the Deji of Akure,
Oba Ogunlade Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi had appealed to the Federal
Government to release the needed funds for the take-off of a Teaching
Hospital for the Federal University of Technology, Akure, FUTA.

Oba Aladelusi who also pleaded that indigenes of the town be given
political appointments, said it was over 31 years ago the town last had
an indigene appointed as a Minister.

The Royal Father however, appreciated Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu
for keeping to its promise of appointing Akure indigenes into position
of authority in his cabinet.

“We are grateful to Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu for making sure
that Akure is represented in his administration and we want the same to
apply in the Federal Cabinet” he said.

In his response the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo,  who was
in Ondo State to attend the 2nd National Council on Niger Delta, agreed that the request for a Teaching Hospital in Akure was not out
of place, but that such request must be in the budget for it to  be a
reality.

 

“The Federal Government will not mind doing it, but provided there is
 budgetary provision. It is an important and appropriate request and we
will make it a duty,” he said.

The Vice-president therefore urged the people to lobby their
representatives in the National Assembly to ensure that such a project
is in the budget.

“The legislators in Ondo State should ensure that the issue is an item in the budget,” the Vice-president said.

The Vice-President used the occasion to state the commitment of the
Federal Government to the exploration of the large deposit of bitumen in
Ondo State which is the second largest in the world.

“If we explore it all, the young men and women will have jobs, it has  huge employment opportinities ,” he said.

He promised to intimate President Muhammadu Buhari on the request of
the people and also work with members of the National Assembly to ensure
its inclusion in the budget.
