The campus of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Ondo State, is steadily coming back to life as staff and students resume after the Corona Virus pandemic-induced lockdown imposed in May last year.
The University Management had announced Monday, January 18, 2021 as resumption date, while first semester examinations were billed to commence the following week.

The Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Olugbenga Ige, who went round the campus on Tuesday, January 19, 2021, to monitor how academic activities were going as well as the level of compliance with COVID-19 protocol, reminded both staff and students of the new policy of ‘no mask, no service.’

The tour showed that quite a number of the students have arrived while both teaching and non-teaching staff members were seen attending to them at the various units, centres, faculties and departments.

The Acting Vice Chancellor visited the Faculties of Arts, Education, Science, Social and Management Sciences, and some lecture theatres where he monitored the level of compliance and the readiness of all for the coming exams. He tasked the various Deans and Heads of Department to ensure strict adherence to measures put in place to prevent the spread of the virus.

He said everyone must make use of the sanitisers, water and soap provided by the institution at the various entry points and major buildings, and that everyone needs to put on his/her nose mask at all times.

In a chat with the Dean of Students, Dr. Olusegun Owolewa, who confirmed the readiness of the students for the examination, commended the University Management for the provision of running taps at several lecture halls and at the various entry points for the purpose of washing of hands, and for also providing sanitisers for staff and students.

He said he is liaising with various student bodies to ensure that returning students comply with all protocol aimed at stemming the tide of the disease.

He said, “Our students are aware of the pandemic and the measures put in place to mitigate it. They know that all students must put on the nose mask at all times while on campus and must wash and sanitise their hands as often as possible.”

Also speaking, the Acting Chief Security Officer, Mr. ’Seye Alademomi said that all security men on campus have been ordered to ensure strict compliance with all laid down protocol against the disease.

In his words, “Towards ensuring compliance, security personnel have been posted to all entry points to enforce the ‘no mask, no entry’ directive. And I am happy to report that there have been commendable compliance with the order.”

Meanwhile, the President of the Student Union Executives, Com. Olusegun Obagunwa, said that his executives have embarked on massive sensitization of students, using many social media platforms.

He added that, “The Union has set up a committee comprising the Student Representatives Council (SRC) which has members from all departments, the Judiciary Council, the Student Union, and members of some paramilitary groups like the Peace Corps and the Nigerian Red Cross. This committee is to ensure that students are engaged to comply with laid down protocol.”

Some of the students who spoke with the Information Unit, have expressed gladness that the long wait for academic activities is finally over. They also stated their readiness to comply with the new rules aimed at preventing the spread of the virus.
