Ondo: Wewood Workers Arrested For Pollution

Ondo State Environmental Protection Agency has arrested some employees of Wewood over the discharge of harmful substances in the environment.

The Special Adviser to the Governor of Environment, Mr Oyeniyi Oseni who disclosed this said they they were caught in the act while discharging harmful effluents into the land and water bodies of their host community.

According to him the company had initially denied polluting the environment with it’s effluents from their factory until they were caught in the video by our intelligent team who have been on their trail for a while..

Oseni said it became expedient to caution industrial firms operating in the state from the unwholesome practices following the disturbing growing trend of environmental degradation and pollution in some parts of the state.

The Wewood company located in Ondo Industrial Park,Ore in Odigbo Local Government Area was found to have violated the State’s environmental protection agency law by discharging harmful effluents into land and water bodies which poises great health risk to their host community

The Special adviser who was piqued with the harmful practices by going concerns polluting the environment warned that any firm or industry operating in the state find wanting in the act of unfriendly actions on the environment will face the dire consequences of their action if caught in the obnoxious act.

He therefore called on all industrial companies and other facilities operating in the state to comply with the State Environmental Protection Agency laws and desist from further action that pollute the soil water and air.

According to him the vision and mission of the new SEPA is to amongst other things makes the State cleaner, healthier and livable for all.

The SA who appreciated the Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu Aketi, SAN for creating SEPA after several years in limbo said the dtaff of the agency are committed to ensure a safer, secured and sustainable environment adding that this is an ongoing exercise that will be sustained”.

Mr Oseni warned that Wewood risk closure of their facility and huge fine, if it does not put in place necessary machineries to control its waste and mitigate the environmental already contaminated.
