The need to develop effective time management skills that would serve as recipe for higher productivity in an institution has been stressed.
A University Don at the Federal University, Oye Ekiti, Prof. Patrick Oladele, stressed this on Thursday at the second lecture series of the College of Social and Management Sciences (COSMAS), Achievers University, Owo.
Prof. Oladele who is a visiting professor at the Ondo State-based varsity, enlightened the academic and non-teaching staff, as well as the students on the import of time management.
According to him, time management is an essential part of development, adding that when properly harnessed, the productivity level of a staff and the place of work would be better for it.
He challenged the lecturers of the institution to plan their time very well as this would assist them in their journey to success, while ensuring they impart better knowledge on their students.
Prof. Oladele, however cautioned his audience to do away with procrastination, which he identified as a “thief of time”.
Citing a lot of examples, the Don warned that procrastination has caused a lot of lecturers and non-teaching staff their jobs, as they were unable to meet up with deadlines set by the management.
He also advised the students to always plan their time around their academic activities, adding that the failure to plan well often comes with devastating effect, such as making up false statement.
Earlier, the acting Vice Chancellor of Achievers University, Prof. Omolola Irinoye, tasked the staff and students to take maximum advantage of the COSMAS lecture series and other related academic discourse in the institution.
She said the University system was established for teaching and research, adding that Achievers University has uphold this guiding philosophy by creating avenue for knowledge sharing.
Also speaking, the Pro-Chancellor of Achievers University, Hon. Dr Bode Ayorinde, tasked other colleges in the University to up their academic engagements by introducing seminar, faculty or public lecture series.
In addition, he said conferences and journals should be part of each college’s plan, as they are the indices that define a mature faculty or college in a University.
On the topic of the lecture series, Dr Ayorinde observed that competence is an ingredient that will assist the individual in proper time management.
