Dr Olusegun Mimiko, former governor of Ondo state, on Wednesday paid a condolence visit to the Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Gbadegesin, Ogunoye III, over the demise of former governor Rotimi Akeredolu.
Mimiko, who led a delegation of top political leaders across the state to the Olowo Palace, said he came to “commiserate with the Olowo of Owo and the people of the kingdom over the passing of their son and former governor Rotimi Akeredolu”.
He described Akeredolu as a rare gem who contributed his own quota to the development of the state and the country at large. The former governor prayed for God’s strength for the Olowo of Owo and the Owo people.
On his part, Oba Gbadegesin thanked Mimiko for the visit and described Akeredolu as an illustrious son whose death has already created a vacuum in the state’s developmental trajectory.
“This is a trying time for us in Owo and the state as a whole. We are deeply saddened by the passing of our dear son but the Lord giveth and He taketh. We cannot question God” the Olowo said.
He urged Mimiko to continue to give leadership, guidance and support to the people of the state, saying he is the only living former governor of Ondo state who God has endowed with the requisite knowledge, as he prayed for God’s protection for the former governor and his family.
Late Akeredolu was the second governor of Owo descent after late Adekunle Ajasin.
