THE FIGHT AGAINST COVID-19: THE COMPROMISES AGAINST PUBLIC SAFETY BY ONDO APC

Our world is presently under severe challenges as the existence of the human race is threatened by the emergence of a virulent and highly transmittable version of the Corona virus. As at last count, millions of people have died across the world while several millions have also recovered at great expense.

As at today, it has become a very important measure for citizens to ensure social distancing and avoid public gatherings in a bid to stem the spread of the virus. These measures, we have complied with as a party, even when there was no verified incident of any citizen of our state having contracted the Covid-19 virus.

It therefore becomes worrying, that the ONDO state chapter of the APC which remains the incumbent party in government at this very trying time, has continued to hold gatherings behind closed doors at its state secretariat in Akure.

This is in flagrant disregard of the nationwide directive against social gathering as a key measure to stem the spread of the Novel COVID-19 virus.

We consider this action by the APC, a clear and present danger to the entire state. This action marks the height of callous hypocrisy, wherein an incumbent government will flout such highly important health directive for political reasons and clearly indicates a disdain for the sacrifices being borne by fellow citizens at this time.

We therefore call on the APC in Ondo state to immediately stop all meetings in accordance with government directives and to make the list of all attendees at such meetings available for contact tracing, isolation and testing.

This disease has called all of us to make stringent sacrifices for our motherland and to begin to flout the rule is clearly not going to be tolerated.
