Sokoto state government says it will construct 1000 units of one-bed room houses for low income earners in the state.
Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal stated this Tuesday when he received the Minister of State for Power, Works and Housing, Mustapha Baba Shehure who paid a courtesy visit to Government House, Sokoto.
He said the aim was to improve the welfare of the people as well as provide opportunity for more citizens to own houses.
Mr Tambuwal said already, his administration has completed 500 housing inherited from the last administration and was commissioned by President Muhammadu Buhari when he visited Sokoto in November last year.
“We hope to complete another 500 housing units at Gidan Man Ada towards the end of this year. Our aim is to ensure that civil servants and other interested individuals who can afford these houses get them and utilize them for the purposes they were meant for.
“We are conscious of the fact that more and more people people need houses and as government, we will do our best to meet these needs,” the Governor added.
He commended the Federal Government for the national housing projects embarked upon by the Ministry and presently ongoing across the country.
The governor said his administration will collaborate with federal government in order to provide adequate and affordable houses to the people.
Earlier in his remarks, the Minister of State said he was in Sokoto to inspect the construction of the 80 housing units being executed by the Federal Government in Sokoto.
He thanked the state government for providing land to the ministry for actualizing the project, saying Sokoto was the first state to achieve this level of progress of the project.
The Minister informed the governor that, the project is the first phase and expressed satisfaction with the level of the work.
