Ondo State first lady, Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu says the desire of the Ondo State Government led by his husband, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu is to make the state a silicon hub.
THE PRECISION reports that Mrs Anyanwu-Akeredolu said this during the inauguration of the Summer Information Communication Technology (ICT) Programme for girls in the state’s public schools held at the Public Service Training Institute, (PSTI), Ilara-mokin.
The first lady who identified the prolific use of ICT in all facet of lives, emphasied the need to empower the girl-child with its knowledge.

“the ICT skills you are going to acquire this summer will give you the knowledge on how to create social media platforms or your personal website which can be used to champion awareness on breast cancer, end to female genital mutilation, and even bring about development to your schools.
“since the girl-child has a role to play in the socio-political development of a nation, there is the need to empower them with ICT.
“we must discourage every social bias that portrays the girl-child as second fiddle in the society,” the first lady noted.
She used the opportunity of her speech to thank the partners of the ICT programme, adding that the various local government chairmen in the state should take the novel idea to their council areas.
Some of the local government chairmen who spoke with THE PRECISION on the sidelines of the event included the Chairman of Akoko South West, Augustine Oloruntogbe; Chairman of Ifedore Local Government, Dipo Ajibola and Chairman of Akure North, Segun Oluyede.
They all threw their weight behind the Summer ICT programme while promising to take the idea to other council areas of the state.
Earlier there were goodwill messages from BRECAN President, DG PSTI, School Principals, Permanent Secretaries and partners of the programme.
