The people of Ijare community in Ifedore Local Government area of Ondo State have decried their neglect and marginalization in projects allocation, projects execution, appointment into public offices and other scheme of things in the state.
They made the passionate appeal to the Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, while on a courtesy visit to the Governor at the Presidential Lodge of the Government House Alagbaka, Akure.
Society Premium reports that the community delegation was led by the traditional ruler of of the town, the Olujare of Ijare, His Royal Majesty, Oba Adebamigbe Oluwagbemigun, and Engineer Akin Odumakin.
The community lamented the deplorable condition of link roads to Ijare community particularly the Orita-Obele-Akure/Ijare road, Ijare to Ikere and the farm to market road (Eti/Ajagboto, Ijare, Araromi to Agamo) in the community.
Engineer Akin Odumakin who spoke on behalf of the people rolled out the areas of marginalization which includes: non appointment of natives of Ijare community into key positions in the state; lack of access roads and other social amenities in spite of their voting strength in Ijare town to successive government in the state.
The Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu while reacting pleaded with the people of the community, saying the lopsidedness in appointments preceded his administration but however promised to consider their request as appropriate .
In his words, “In the Civil Service, we are trying to make sure we consider merit – putting round pegs in round holes. If any of your sons and daughters are qualified they don’t need to know me before they are considered. That’s me. The Civil Servants have careers and I don’t feel we should just terminate it because of our four years.
“In political appointments, we consider a lot of factors and try to balance, but I can assure you whatever we can do to correct the present situation will be done “, Akeredolu noted.
Other members of the delegation are: High Chief (Mrs) Florence Aladesanmi, Dr E. A. Falodi, Dr Oladutire Deji, Engineer Alex Oladimeji and High Chief Wemimo Olaniran.
