The police in Akwa Ibom state has arrested one Sunday Uko
Akpan, a church elder, for allegedly killing his 35-year-old wife and
mother of his three children, Martha Sunday Uko, at their home in Uyo,
the state capital on October 11th.

A statement from the state police public relations officer, Bala
Elkana, says Akpan who is an elder at the Light of the World Mission
Church, Oron Road, Uyo, on the said day, had an argument with his wife
which degenerated into a fight. Later at night, Akpan used a knife to
stab his wife and then cut her remains into pieces.

“Later, the suspect at midnight cut her remains into pieces, packed
them in two sacks, put them in a wheelbarrow and poured them into a
waste bin near NDLEA’s office, off Nwaniba Road, Uyo. The suspect killed
his wife in the presence of their children, who thereafter reported to
the police, for fear of being murdered by their father. During
interrogation, he confessed to the crime. An investigation is on. The
suspect will be arraigned for murder,” the statement read.
