Unknown gunmen suspected to be kidnappers on Wednesday, abducted the wife and daughter of Nasiru Yakubu, a Kaduna-based Nigerian journalist reporting for the Voice of America (VOA) Hausa Service.

Mr. Yakubu while narrating the incident to our reporter said the kidnappers came to his house at Birnin Yero, a village along Kaduna-Zaria road, Kaduna State, North-West Nigeria, around 1:30 a.m. and were demanding for his whereabouts from his wife.
“They abducted my wife and daughter at gun point when they couldn’t get me.
“My neighbour, a Federal Road Safety Corps Marshal, was shot dead when he tried to stop them. We are preparing for his burial now,” Yakubu said.
He said the kidnappers have contacted him, but declined to confirm whether they have made a ransom demand.
Mukhtar Aliyu, police spokesperson, Kaduna State Command, said he was not aware of the incident.
He said he was attending the IGP Security Summit in Kaduna, and promised to make further inquiries and get back.
