World Glacouma Week: Ondo Organises Free Glacouma Screening | The Precision

As the world  celebrates Glaucoma Week, Ondo Mellenium Eye Centre embarks on free Glaucoma screening.

 

The Chief Medical Director, Ondo State Mellenium Eye Centre, Dr. Ayodele Fasawe said to Avert irreversible blindness Through Glaucoma, the World Glaucoma Association has deemed it fit to create awareness about the silent blinder.
Dr Fasawe who disclosed that Glaucoma Is the second commonest cause of Irreversible blindness, can be tackled if detected early.
She added that the  program which started on Monday will end on Friday.
The Consultant to the eye centre, Dr Simisola Adaramola advised the people of the state to take advantage of the free eye screening.
She further stressed that for healthy living , people should make it a habit to go for eye check at least once in a year so that anomalies can be defected early and nipped in the bud.
Mrs Oyebimpe Ogunleye an opthalmic Nurse and Health Educator, cleared misconceptions about Glaucoma , educated the people gathered at the Nepa Car Park on what it is,  while saying that the cause has not been discovered,  there is no cure and it is to be managed for life.
Some beneficiaries interviewed such as Mrs Rita Okonkwo, Mrs Ronke Oyebola and Mr Godfrey  Chukwuemeka  lauded the programme, said it is an eye opener.
Mr Ososanya Oluwole the Regional Manager Drugfield pharmaceuticals an annual sponsor of the programme,said the CEO of the company who is from the State deem it fit to give back to his state by sponsoring the programme annually.
He said the intention is to reduce those tending towards blindness after knowing their status, help them get assistance and also give some free drugs to them.
