As the world celebrate International day of the girl child, the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Ondo State chapter has charged parents with female children to be extra vigilant and do all humanly possible to make sure the girl child is not abused and molested.
The Chairman of the association, Comrade Sola Omotoso condemned in strong terms the recent spate of harassment, abuse and molestation of the girl child by wolves in sheep’s clothing.
The NAWOJ Chairman stressed the need for proper mentoring and monitoring of the girl child and young adults.
While felicitating the girls, the Chairman Comrade Sola Omotosho said her organisation is pitching her tent with girls as they aspire, innovate and take charge of their future.
She shares in their joy and aspirations as they celebrate the International day of the girl child, saying the girl child is in no way inferior to the male child.
In a release signed by the Secretary of the association Comrade Abooluwa Famakinwa, the Chairman wants the girl- child to stay focused amidst challenges confronting her.
The NAWOJ Chairman who frowns and totally condemns the killing of girls in the society and wants mothers to be their girls best friends.
According to the Chairman, a smooth relationship between mothers and their girls will help greatly in shaping their life.
Comrade Omotosho appeals to Governor Rotimi Akeredolu to reduce school fees and charges to the barest minimum for new intakes in public schools especially schools in Akure to allow more girls enrol.
She also appealed to the Commissioner of Police Ondo State command to do all in his capacity to apprehend the killers of Miss Ajila Seen Fionna.
The young adult, a model was raped and stabbed to death in her parents Ijoka, Akure home on Thursday October 4th.
The association commiserate with the parents, relations associates and friends of late Kaila Fionna and prayed for the repose of her soul.
