Floods: Ondo Closes Schools For 3 Weeks

Governor of Ondo State, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has directed public Primary and Secondary Schools affected and submerged in recent floods to proceed on a three weeks holiday beginning from Monday, October 14, 2019.

This follows “flash floods that have affected most flood-prone communities, especially in the riverine areas of the State.

Recently, a final year student of adekunle Ajasin University ,Akungba akoko was reportedly swept away by flood at her resident due to continual downpour.

Report, on Friday, also said the road between Irele and Ajagba in irele local government area of the state hàs been completely submerged by the flood, thereby making it difficult for the inhabitants to get to their destinations.

A statement by Donald Ojogo, Commissioner for Information and Orientation says “This becomes necessary in order to forestall possible attendant incidents that may likely affect lives of vulnerable pupils in those areas as a result of the floods.

“It is also aimed at protecting valuables from avoidable destruction.

“All Head Teachers and Principals are to enforce this directive; and in particular, ensure that all perishable educational materials are evacuated while Government works out remedial logistics believing that the floods would recede within the period of the three weeks holiday,” the statement read.
