NIEPA Holds International Conference

Research and Development department of National Institute for Educational Planning and Administration packaged an exciting, informative, academic and entertaining week of activities for its local, international clients and guests from Monday 4th to Friday 8th November, 2019.

Speaking to gentlemen of the press, head Research and Development Department Dr. Samson Oyeromi said the department thought it necessary to respond to the many ills bedeviling the education system in
Nigeria by offering a platform where possible panaceas to these problems could be mustered.

While appreciating the Director-General Professor Lilian Salami for her approval and support all the way, he said the event this year will comprise of an International Conference, Award of Excellence and Book launch.

Declaring the conference open, Director General and Chief Executive of NIEPA Nigeria, Ondo, Professor Lilian Salami represented by Dr. Mrs. Adebola Agbaje welcomed all to the epoch making event. Speaking further, Dr. Agbaje decried the poor state of insecurity across the nation and prayed that the conference will provide solutions out of the present quagmire. Delivering an incisive keynote
address at the International conference, Professor of Education Management from University Benin, Kola Adeyemi, dissected the prevailing security situation pervading the country. Speaking on the conference theme “Managing Education for Achieving Global Security and Sustainable Development”, he opined that
sustainable development is any development that attends to and meets the needs of today without jeopardizing or compromising the ability of the future generation.

According to the university don, insecurity negates any form of development and must be tackled headlong. Professor Adeyemi underscored the importance of education in proffering solutions to the myriad of problems posed by insecurity by stating rightly that all over the world, education is perceived to be a game changer.

Speaking at the conference and reacting to questions and contributions posed by the audience after the keynote address, Professor Peter Okebukola absolved government of blame in the falling standard of education in the country. According to the former NUC boss, “Government is not to blame for the poor state of education in Nigeria, the bulk of the blame rests squarely on all of us”.

He decried the continuous aiding and abetting of corrupt practices going on in our schools as a
result of the inordinate desires of parents to see their wards succeed at all cost.

Until the moral fabric of our society is restored, we will keep turning in circles regarding delivering quality and effective education in our country, Okebukola adduced.

The conference similarly saw other notable personalities in the academia and Police Force present lead papers.

They include, Professor Kolawole Kazeem from Osun State College of Education, Ilesha who presented a paper titled “Managing Education for Global Security and Sustainable Development: An Overview”, Dr.
David Shofoyeke, a Chief Research Fellow of the National Institute for Educational Planning and Administration, Ondo presented a paper titled “Achieving Global Security and Sustainable Development: Educational Management Perspective” and Deputy Commissioner of Police Lagos State, Dr. Emeka Polycarp presented a paper titled “Achieving Security and Sustainable Development: The Police Perspectives”.

In continuation of ceremonies to mark the 2019 International Conference, a book titled “Fundamentals of Educational Management” was launched and Award of Excellence presented to prominent members of the public.

The event graced by dignitaries from within and outside Ondo state took place at the Oba Adesanoye
Civic Center in the city of Ondo.

They include Oba Dr. Victor Kiladejo Jilo III, The Osemawe of Ondo Kingdom who was represented by The Sasere of Ondo Kingdom, High Chief Johnson Adeduro, deputy chairman, House of Representatives committee on Federal Character, Honorable Abiola Makinde, Chief of staff to His Excellency, The Governor of Ekiti State, Hon. Biodun Omoleye, seasoned banker and successful business man, Chief Isaac Akintade (JP), renowned educationist and former Executive Secretary, Nigeria Universities Commission, Professor Peter Okebukola, Head, Training Department NIEPA, Ondo Dr. Sunday Oduyemi Adegbesan, Chief Public Relations Officer, NIEPA Ondo, Mr. Sola Ebire and a host of others.
