Kogi State Universal Basic Education Board in conjunction with National Institute for Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA), Ondo kick started a four-day capacity building workshop for Directors, Deputy Directors, Heads of Administration and Heads of School Services in Kogi State.
The workshop themed “Leadership and Management Techniques for the Efficient Delivery of Universal Basic Education” had selected Kogi SUBEB officials from the three senatorial districts in attendance.
Delivering her good will message before the commencement of the technical sessions, the Director, Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) North-Central zonal office, Dr. Mrs. Ene Adikwu who represented the Commission’s Executive Secretary, expressed her delight that NIEPA Nigeria Ondo, a well-recognized parastatal of the Federal Ministry of Education is facilitating the process to instill quality education skills in the basic education sector in Kogi state. While underscoring the importance of strategic management at not only the LGEAs but UBEC and SUBEB, Dr. Adikwu stated that the importance of UBE cannot be overemphasized.

She added that, without quality leadership and management, inputs made into UBE will not yield the desired results.
In the same vein, Director of Training, Kogi SUBEB who also doubles as the Director of Administration and Supplies, Alhaji S aidu Jibrin harped on the importance of training and re-training of SUBEB officials to equip them with the rudiments and challenges encountered as they strive to ensure efficient delivery of basic education in the state. He assured the participants of SUBEB’s commitment to enhancing knowledge and skills of its staff.
Also, speaking at the occasion, Executive Chairman Kogi SUBEB, Comrade Suleiman Abdullahi welcomed all to the confluence state. He expressed his gladness anytime Teacher Development Programmes (TDP) are organized. According to him, the development and success of UBE programmes in the state, is hinged on the ability of Administrators to understand their roles and deliver them efficiently.
“Even if we are all skilled and talented and we are not able to put our acts together by way of Leadership and Management, invariably we will lose focus and our target audience (pupils and teachers) will wonder astray” opined the chairman. Alhaji Abdullahi thanked the Executive Governor of the State, His Excellency Alhaji Yahaya Bello for providing the ena bling environment for basic education to thrive after which he declared the workshop open.
Dr. David Shofoyeke who led the team of facilitators from NIEPA intimated the gathering that the training programme had been carefully packaged with the aim re-positioning Kogi SUBEB-LGEA Officers team for better service delivery and to improve the standard of education in Kogi State.
Upon completion of the programme, these set of education managers will be updated on the latest best practices in leadership skills and strategic management processes, Dr. Shofoyeke said.
