    The Governing Council of Achievers University, Owo, Ondo State has appointed Professor Samuel Aje and Rev. Canon Bayode Oladimeji as the new Vice-Chancellor and Registrar respectively.

    Hon. Dr. ’Bode Ayorinde, Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Council, said the appointments were approved at the last Council meeting of the 12-year-old University held in March 2020.

    He added that the new principal officers would take the University to its next developmental phase and fast-track the realization of the vision of the University to be the best in Africa and one of the best in the world.

    Aje, Professor of French and Applied Linguistics, completed his tenure at the University of Jos (UNIJOS), Jos, Plateau State, after spending two terms as Director-General (DG) of the Nigeria French Language Village (NFLV), Badagry, Lagos. He attended the Université de Caen, Normandy and the Universite dé Paris VIII, both in France, where he had his bachelor’s, masters and doctorate degrees. The third Vice-Chancellor of Achievers University, a world-acclaimed researcher, is reputed to be the brains behind the country’s first Language Immersion Programme (LIP), which was held at UNIJOS in 1984. This initiative later gave birth to NFLV. In recognition of this, the Federal Government of Nigeria appointed the visionary and initiator of the LIP as DG, NFLV, a post he held between 2003 and 2013.

    Aje, who was the Chairman, Planning and Implementation Committee of the then proposed Achievers University, has been a member of Council of the University since 2008.

    Rev. Canon Oladimeji, a pioneer staff of the University and its first Director, Directorate of Student Affairs, had his secondary education at Imade College, Owo, after which he studied Agricultural Science at the University of Ife’s College of Agriculture, Moor Plantation, Ibadan, where he obtained the Higher Diploma. He also attended Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko and the Federal University of Technology, Akure, where he was awarded the Bachelor of Science (Business Administration) and Master of Business Administration degrees respectively. He is a member, Institute of Management Consultants.

    Oladimeji, an ordained priest of the Anglican Communion, had worked as Production Manager, Jof Ideal Farms, Owo, before he joined the services of the University. He had also been, at various times, acting Director of Works, Principal Assistant Registrar, Personnel; Principal Assistant Registrar, Academics; and Deputy Registrar, a position he held before his new appointment as the third Registrar of the University.

    The Vice-Chancellor and Registrar have since assumed duty and taken up their responsibilities.
