The Ipele Traditional Council of Chiefs headed by the Adele Olupele, High Chief Raji Sanni Olujase has urged the Governor of Ondo state, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu to initiate the selection process for the new Olupele before the October 10 guber poll.

The Precision NG reports that the Kingmakers who spoke through the Arole of Ipele, Chief Omotayo Akinrogbe made the appeal during a press conference on Saturday in Ipele.

The Kingmakers said the initiation of the selection process became imperative as Ipele is the only town in Owo local government area that has no substantive King in the last Five years.

The stool of the Olupele of lpele became vacant in 2015 after Oba Abel Alade joined his ancestors.

They said they had been unable to begin the selection process for the vacant stool because of the court case instituted against one of the aspirants, adding that since the Owo high court judgement on Monday, August 3, 2020 had now given them the nod to do so, the government should as a matter of urgency initiate the process.

The kingmakers begged Akeredolu to compel the state ministry of chiefancy affairs to immediately commence the process of selecting and approving new traditional ruler for the town.

“In essence, the Kingmakers are to select and elect a suitable candidate to fill the stool of Olupele of Ipele among the qualified candidates once the state Ministry of Local government and Chieftaincy Affairs gives the directive to the body to begin the process.

“The vacuum has therefore negatively affected the expected development phase in Ipele in all ramifications.

“Ipele has no representative in the Council of Oba either at the state or Owo local government level”, they observed.

Also speaking, Ibrahim Rafiu who is the youth leader thanked Akeredolu for not interfering with the process, adding that people of the town have conducted themselves in peaceful manner even when there was a court case.

He said all the aspirants see themselves as one.

The Kingmakers used the opportunity of the press conference to thank Akeredolu for appointing their sons and daughters into his government coupled with the construction of Iyere-Ipele and township roads.

Just like Oliver Twist, they craved Akeredolu to provide water resources to the various Ipele communities while also opening up roads leading to farm settlements in Oke-Ogun, Melege, Uwese, Ajagbale to ease transportation of farm products to commercial centres.
