The University of Ibadan Council Chairman, Nde Joshua Waklek has suspended the selection process of the new Vice Chancellor for the premier University.

The Precision NG reports that Six out of the 18 applicants had earlier been selected for screening on wednesday.

However, Union members in the University picketed the institution on Wednesday and blocked the main entrance to the institution.

Their demands was that the process leading to the selection of the final applicants was null and void.

Last month, Two Professors in the institution petitioned the council chairman, Nde Joshua Waklek having been shortchanged during the senate meeting culminating in the selection of the applicants for the VC position.

Confirming the new development to newsmen in Ibadan on Wednesday, Mr Wale Akinremi, Chairman of SSANU said the Council will be meeting with aggrieved union members on Friday to resolve the issue.

He said that the Council Chairman, Nde Joshua Waklek stated this when he came to address the protesters which comprised of the unions in UI on the alleged imposition of a preferred candidate.

“So, the selection process has been suspended for now until all the issues raised in the appointment of the new VC is addressed,” he said.
