The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), University of Ibadan chapter has joined other stakeholders in the institution to register its displeasure in the handling of the electronic voting process that led to the selection of the candidates that would be shortlisted for the 13th Vice Chancellor of the premier varsity.

The Precision NG had reported last week a protest letter from a don of the institution, Prof. Adesoji Fasanmade stating why the process should be set aside for a new one.

But the Senior Staff of the University under the aegis of SSANU are also calling for a repeat of the process.

SSANU Chairman and its Secretary, Mr Akinremi and Mr Omisore in a statement released on Monday and obtained by The Precision NG, emphasised the need for the University to maintain its culture of integrity, while noting that the unfortunate and ugly scenarios playing out at OAU and UNILAG should not be allowed to rear its head at the University of Ibadan.

“Corruption, intellectual thievery, maladministration, compensatory appointments hitherto alien to the ivory tower are now the order of the day. Many of these have been chronicled in past correspondences to you but to which no meaningful effort had been made to salvage.

SSANU added that the chairman of council or Pro-Chancellor should as a matter of urgency respond to the demands of the progressive minded people of the institution who have consistently raised issues in memo to his office.

“…the process of the appointment is in a state of quagmire, and therefore, there is an urgent need for a bailout to forestall unpalatable back washes. Our prayer is that the overall process has to be overhauled, sanitized, and redone in the common interest of the University.

“The e-Voting as it were in the University of Ibadan is a facade. There is need for an independent handling of the process away from the current gladiators for us to have a fair and acceptable result.

“We cannot afford to have a replay of what happened in Obafemi Awolowo University and University of Lagos, in the University of Ibadan,” the statement read.
