The Ondo State House of Assembly has approached the Supreme Court to appeal the ruling of the Court of Appeal in Akure, the state capital which ordered the leadership of the House to reinstate the suspended Lawmakers.
The four members of the Assembly include the Deputy Speaker, Mr Iroju Ogundeji, Mrs Favour Tomomewo, Mr Tomide Akinribido and Mr Wale Williams.
They were suspended by the leadership of the House for alleged gross misconduct in June this year. Ogundeji is representing Odigbo Constituency I, Tomomewo represents Ilaje Constituency II Akinribido represents Ondo west constituency I while Williams is from Ondo west constituency II in the Assembly. They are all members of the All Progressives Congress, except Akinribido who is a member of the ZLP.
They were also part of the Nine Lawmakers who opposed the impeachment notice of the state Deputy Governor, Mr Agboola Ajayi.
The state High Court in Akure had earlier ordered the reinstatement of the lawmakers while the Court of Appeal also dismissed the stay of execution order filed by the Assembly, ordering for the reinstatement of the Lawmakers.
However, the House allegedly failed to reinstate the lawmakers. It claimed it had not been served the order of the appellate Court which dismissed the stay of execution order.
Following the ruling of the appellate Court , the suspended Lawmakers were at the Assembly to resume their legislative duties but were prevented from entering into the Assembly complex by the security men.
The Speaker, Bamidele Oleyelogun denied the allegation, claiming the House was on recess.
On Thursday, Oleyelogun and the leadership of the House were served Form 48 (Contempt of Court ) for allegedly disobeying the Court order reinstating the suspended lawmakers.
It was consequently gathered that Assembly has proceeded to the apex court to challenge the judgement of the appellate court.
Reports say the notice of appeal was filed by the Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary of the Ondo State Ministry of Justice, Mr Cyril Akinrinsola.
The Assembly is seeking the order of the apex court to overrule the Court of Appeal which dismissed the stay of execution order filed by the Assembly.
