Prof. Aje also confirmed that the tuition-free would run for the next three academic sessions after which the students would pay full tuition fees in the final part, that is, 400 level.
“The first one is to give opportunity to students deserving tertiary education to have access to quality education because it is not every student wishing to attend university that has that opportunity.
“We first of all congratulate students of Achievers University for having that opportunity, and appreciate their parents or guardians for supporting them. By having tuition-free courses, and not limiting the number of beneficiaries is a way of throwing it open – we want to reach out to as many people as possible.
“Education is knowledge, and a means of empowerment – a way of empowering the youths and giving them meaningful life expectations,” Aje said.
The VC who recently assumed duty at the University also harped on the fact that the tuition-free would encourage the communities around the institution to benefit from the gesture.
“The second objective is that we want the people within the vicinity of the University, that is, the catchment area to further feel the presence of this University. The location of the University is in purely agrarian area, and not all them would have their wards here.
“So with this arrangement, it will encourage more people within this area – Ondo, Ekiti, Osun, Edo – to benefit more from the services of the University. And you’ll discover that these are core courses that will give them lifelong careers – B.Sc. Economics, Accounting, Business Administration, Industrial Chemistry etc.
“They aren’t courses that you can push aside; these are courses that are in demand. We are really preparing a team of people that will emerge from this University with time. Again, our colleagues in these various professions will be better appreciated. The number is not limited, and is for a period of three years.
“At the end of three years, we shall see how far we have gone, and we shall take a look at it again. The beneficiary won’t pay for three years till the fourth year, which is the final year,” Aje said.
The Precision NG reports that screening for interested candidates for the 11 tuition-free and other programmes holds on Saturday 5th December 2020 at the University premises. Time is 11am.
